Galina (Cyrillic: Галина; from Greek γαλήνη "Serenity") is a Russian feminine given name, also popular in Bulgaria and Slovenia during the period of Soviet influence. In Ukraine (in Ukrainian documents) the spelling of the name recently changed to Halina or Halyna due to Ukrainian pronunciation. Nicknames include Gala, Galochka, Galya, Galka and Galechka. Immediately download the Galina Ulanova summary, chapter-by-chapter analysis, book notes, essays, quotes, character descriptions, lesson plans, and more - everything you need for studying or teaching Galina Ulanova.

Galina Ulanova is considered one of the leading ballerinas of the twentieth century. But again, she’s Russian. In fact, the first time I remember hearing the name was during the Olympics. Galina: Orange is the New Speaking of Russians, another one that might come to mind is the fictional Red from Orange is the New Black. When Piper. Galina Sergeyevna Ulanova was born in in St. Petersburg -- the home of Fokine, Balanchine, Petipa, Nijinsky and so many other legends of Russian dance. She was taught there by her mother -- who also danced professionally -- before entering the famous ballet school there.

Ulanova was truly a fascinating figure, and she is certainly not without a rich backstory. Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, she studied under Agrippina Vaganova (of the Vaganova method, a ballet technique which is still widely used today) and her own mother, a ballerina of the Imperial Russian Ballet of the famous Mariinsky Theatre, which Galina herself later joined.   The book takes us back into the history of the Bolshoi and shares many photographs, all in black and white, of Ulanova at work and living her life. I found Days Ulanova extremely interesting reading and learnt lots about how the Russian dancers train that make them into world class dancers. This is a must add book to any dance lovers collection.
